Monster Scorekeeper

This version of the Monster Scorekeeper (hippoTell-based) has been replaced by a complete product.

See Monster Scorekeeper.

The (DS) Monster Scorekeeper shows the top 5 scores during a fishing contest and works with either the 7Seas Fishing Contest Board or a compatible board such as the (DS) Blackboard.

The script for the scorekeeper is FREE and can be obtained at Diamond Synthesis Pots & Buckets (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Blung/234/31/21). However, you also need a hippoTELL v2.6 Noticeboard, which may be purchased at the Hippo Technologies Store (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Hippo%20Technologies/114/151/44) or at Diamond Synthesis Pots & Buckets (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Blung/234/31/21).

You create the Monster Scorekeeper by copying the (DS) Monster Scorekeeper script into a HippoTELL v2.6 board.

The Monster Scorekeeper is similar to the satellite board provided by 7Seas, however, it keeps track of ties and works with the (DS) Blackboard.

MENU

After assembly, get the Monster Scorekeeper menu by clicking the board. TWO menus will pop up. Click "Ignore" on the hippoTELL menu and use the scorekeeper menu, identified by "USE THIS MENU TO CONTROL SCOREKEEPER".

You can turn the Monster Scorekeeper text on and off using "Display On/Off" on the menu. This does not effect the operation of the scorekeeper.

At contest end, the final scores persist. The Monster Scorekeeper resets automatically when the next contest starts. Optionally, you can reset the scorekeeper by clicking "Reset" on the menu.

You can lock the Monster Scorekeeper to a particular contest board. Note that this is not necessary if you are only using one contest board at a time. To lock the Monster Scorekeeper, click "Lock" on the menu. To lock to a Blackboard, click "Give Key" on the Blackboard menu. To lock to a 7Seas Fishing Contest Board, use "Plug-ins/Broadcast" on the 7Seas menu.

ASSEMBLY

Rez and edit a hippoTELL v2.6 board.

Copy the script (DS) Monster Scorekeeper from your inventory to the Content tab of the hippoTELL v2.6 board.

Rename the hippoTELL v2.6 board to "(DS) Monster Scorekeeper". Pick up the scorekeeper so you have one in you inventory.

After rezzing a scorekeeper, hippoTELL information may be displayed. Touch the board and click "Reset" on the scorekeeper menu to get the scorekeeper display.

Blackboard Update

Update 102.3 for the (DS) Blackboard is recommended for everyone, but particularly those who want to use the Second Life "display name" feature.

To get the update, go to an inworld Bit Bucket location, wear your Blackboard, then accept a new (DS) Blackboard Package. First, you may need to rez the Blackboard/Eraser coalesced object, then pick up the Blackboard so you can later wear it.

An inworld Bit Bucket is located at Diamond Synthesis Pots & Buckets

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Blung/229/30/21

This update adds the following:

1. "Display Names" are used if available. This feature can be turned off by editing the "config" notecard. When turned off, legacy names are used. Display names are particularly useful for users having the "modern" login names that were introduced in November 2010.

2. Edits to the "config" notecard during a contest are now processed immediately. However, changing the "display name" setting during a contest has no effect upon fishers that have already caught a fish.

3. The limit on the maximum number of fishers is raised from 70 to 90.

4. Each page of floating text scores now has a unique color.

5. The menu now shows the current settings.

Puck Pole

The Puck Pole game is now available at the Triple J Ice Fishing area (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Blung/209/60/2001).

To play, touch the "Rez and Ride" signs to get a Bumper Puck or Tiny Bumper Puck. Turn off any AOs and sit in the puck. Use the arrow keys to move and Shift-Left/Shift-Right to spin quickly.

When the contest starts, hit the pole in the center of the rink as many times as you can. Each hit scores a point and the most points wins, YaY.

Sometimes, prizes are awarded.

Level Up Mug

The (DS) Level Up Mug is coffee mug and 7Seas scorekeeper. You can get it by leveling up (reaching the next 7Seas fishing level) at the Triple J Ice Fishing area (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Blung/209/60/2001) and Triple J @ Diamond Cove (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Blung/249/33/22).

HOF levelers get a mug with an extra "Hall of Fame" texture, YaY.

Touch the mug to get the menu, which allows you to control the scorekeeper, choose coffee or chocolate, change colors, and turn steam on and off.

The Level Up Mug is a Triple J Fishing prize given out by the (DS) Level Up Server, an automated level up prize giver.

Blackboard Update

Update 102.2 for the (DS) Blackboard is recommended for everyone, but particularly those who run very long contests where many fishers may participate.

1. Limit on number of fishers.

The number of fishers in a contest is limited to 70. When the limit is reached, the Blackboard displays "No New Fishers" over the scores.

This limit prevents the board from crashing during contests of long duration, when fishers come and go.

2. Limit on title.

The number of characters in the title is limited to 25. You can change the title displayed over the scores by editing the "config" notecard on the Content tab of the Blackboard.

3. Default announce volume is 20m.

In "config", when "shout" is "off", Blackboard chat messages are broadcast within a 20m radius. When "on", Blackboard chat messages are broadcast within a 100m radius. The default is "off".

4. The "time left" display shows days, hours, and minutes in a compact format.

For example, 7d, 6d 23h 59m, 1h, 59m, and 1m.

5. Eraser Scorekeeper prim count reduced from 4 to 2.

Starter Bell Update

An update for the (DS) Starter Bell adds new features. To get the update (103.2), go to an inworld Bit Bucket location, wear your Starter Bell, then accept a new (DS) Starter Bell Package.

An inworld Bit Bucket Giver is located at Diamond Synthesis Pots & Buckets

New Features in 103.2

1. Contest starts on "top" of the minute.

The Starter Bell always starts a contest at the "top" of the minute.

For example, if you set the start time tor 10:30 am, then the contest starts at 10:30 am exactly.

If you set a pre-start period, the period is rounded-down so that the contest starts at the "top" of a minute.

For example, if you set the pre-start period to 5 minutes and click "Auto Start" at 11:55:45 am, then the contest starts exactly at 12 noon, that is, after 4 minutes and 15 seconds.

2. Announce volume control

During the countdown, the Starter Bell makes announcements in local chat. You can control the volume from the menu by clicking the "Vol 20m" or "Vol 100m" buttons to select 20 meters or 100 meters. The default is 20 meters.

New Features in 103.1

1.Ability to schedule a contest to start at a specific time.

Contest Fishin' Skool

Contest Fishing Tips

In the 7Seas Fishing Game, the server determines what you catch on each cast. But a fishing contest involves many casts, and there is a lot you can do to improve your chances of winning. Here are some tips for solo fishing, team fishing, and hosting.

Solo Contests

1. Get to Level 5 as quickly as possible. At level 5 and above, your expected XP is 1.42 per cast, which is the maximum.

2. Make sure you have enough bait for the entire contest. Every ten minutes you cast about 22 times, so figure it out. For example, a 60 minute contest requires about 132 baits. Buy and load bait prior to the contest, preferably in a lag-free sim.

3. Start casting with bait before the contest starts. Ideally, you want a catch right at the moment a contest begins. Many contests are decided by one point so make sure you get in all your casts.

4. Use autocast but monitor what is happening, as sometimes autocasting stops when the server is temporarily unavailable due to lag.

5. Reduce the chance that you will crash. If your computer gets compute bound or if your network connection is flaky, you may become disconnected from Second Life and lose casts. Learn from experience what causes you to crash and don't do those things during a contest.

6. Cut your losses. If you find yourself more than N points behind with N minutes left, you may choose to "unbait" and save your bait for the next contest. For example, if the contest pays the top 5 and your are 11 points behind 5th place with 10 minutes left, you might choose to unbait. Of course, anything can happen in fishing, so you may choose to never give up.

7. For high lag contests with lots of fishers:

a) Arrive early so you rez everything before the contest starts. Set your draw distance as low as possible (64m).

b) Remove all unnecessary scripted items. Do you really need that AO or shoe resize script?

c) Once settled, do not move. Put your camera on one thing, such as the contest board, and leave it there. Do not look around.

d) Expect that the scoreboard does not keep up and may lose some of your catches. This is the same for everyone so it is not unfair.

e) Do not give up because your catches are not being recorded on the scoreboard. Sometimes it just takes a while.

8. Keep Fishing! Although it seems like fishing is "streaky", the fact is... the servers that determine what you catch don't know anything about your fishing history. Regardless of what happened in the last contest, you have the same chance of catching a SUR on the next cast as anyone else. You won't win a contest if you don't fish.... so keep fishing!

Team Contests

In a team contest, you join a team of 3 fishers and your scores are combined. There is a 10 minute team formation period followed by the contest. Because of lag during the team formation period, it is best to use "invite" mode.

1. Organize ahead of time. Become a captain and recruit two other fishers for your team.

2. When the team formation period starts,

a) if you are a captain, click the board, select "Start", put your team in "invite" mode, name your team, and invite your team mates. Use these commands in chat. Prepare ahead of time and then use copy/paste.

/7 mode invite
/7 name YOUR_TEAM_NAME
/7 invite 1ST_TEAM_MATE_NAME
/7 invite 2ND_TEAM_MATE_NAME

b) if you are not a captain, wait for the invite dialog to appear, than accept.

3. Never give up. No matter what happens, keep fishing. If you crash, get back ASAP.

Hosting

A fishing host determines contest policy and they can do what they want. If you don't like the way a contest is run, don't fish there.

The following tips are suggestions for making a contest attractive to the most people.

1. Announce your contest in 7Seas Social Chat at least an hour or more ahead of time. Provide all pertinent information (start time, contest type, duration, starting pot, payout, slurl). Follow Seven's announcement etiquette (http://7seasfishing.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=504).

2. Notice when other contests are ending and plan your start time so that people have time to get there.

3. Don't restrict who can attend your contest unless required by your sim policies.

4. Start on time. This means you will finish on time and allow people to get to the next contest.

5. Do not use a buyin or house rake. People are happy to contribute to the pot voluntarily.

6. Do not fish competitively in your own contests.

7. Use a contest pot to accept donations and give out prizes. Manually tracking down winners and adjusting for ties is tedious.

This update is recommended for fishing areas that use buy ins or run multiple contests at the same time.

NEW FEATURES

1. Board Locking

If you want a pot to listen only to a specific board, you can lock the pot to that board. This is necessary if you have multiple pot/board combinations set up for different contests. By default, a pot listens to all contest boards within 20m.

To lock a pot to a board, first click "Lock" on the pot menu. Within 60 seconds, click "Plug-ins" on the 7Seas Contest Board menu, then click "Broadcast". The board will give you instructions in chat on how to broadcast the board key. Follow those instructions. When successful, the pot reports "Locked to board with minikey xxxxxx", where "xxxxxx" is the minikey, that is, the first 6 digits of the board key. The pot menu also shows "Lock: xxxxxx".

You can lock multiple pots to the same contest board.

To reset a pot that is locked to a board, take the pot into inventory and rerez it.

2. Buy In Refund

If a person makes a contribution to a pot prior to the beginning of the buy in period, the pot refunds the contribution. This feature is enabled only when the pot is configured for a buy in, that is, a contest entry fee.

Free Monster LoLLy

Want to show 7Seas Fishing Contest Results on a big prim-text board. Then the Monster LoLLy is for you. It's insane and it's free from Diamond Synthesis.

You must also have a (DS) Bronze or Gold Pot, a hippoTell board (v2.6) from hippo Technologies, and some basic building skills.

The idea is that your rez multiple hippoTell boards together to make one big board. The Monster LoLLy controls your creation.

You can get your Monster LoLLy package here.

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Stamper/7/177/38

Here is the Monster LoLLy Guide, so you can decide if it's right for you.

ASSEMBLY

1. Rez a hippoTell board, v2.6. Drag the script "(DS) Monster Link" into the hippoTell board. Rename the hippoTell board to "Monster Board" (or a name of your choice) and take it back into inventory.

2. Rez a "(DS) Monster Lolly", which appears as a big purple backboard with a white cylinder (LoLLy) in the bottom center. Later you can change the appearance and size of the board, as you have full perms.

In local chat, you should see "Please rez Monster Boards one at a time within the next 5 minutes".

3. Rez a "Monster Board" against the purple backboard so that you can see it's display side. In local chat, you should see "Board n is up, (DS) Monster Link xxx.y" where n is a board number starting with 0 and xxx.y is a version string. Next, several hippoTell whispers appear.

The hippoTell board should

a) display "initializing..."
b) display "hello from board n"
c) display some hippoTech information
d) go blank

4. If you want more display lines, repeat step 3 within the 5 minute period. Each board you rez will give you 6 more display lines. Note that the "hello from board n" message should increment the n value.

5. When done rezzing hippoTell boards, you can move them so that they overlap and appear to be seamless. To get an alignment aid, touch the LoLLy (the white cylinder with the ds logo), and click the "Test Solo" button on the menu.

You may also wish to resize, recolor, or retexture the purple backdrop. You may delete the purple backdrop if you first unlink it from the LoLLy .

OPERATION

When the LoLLy is ready to receive results, it displays "Waiting for Results" in floating text.

At contest end, the Gold/Bronze Pot broadcasts results to the LoLLy for display. When a LoLLy has results, it displays "Loaded" in floating text. A "Loaded" LoLLy must be reset before it can receive results from another contest. Use the "New Contest" button on the menu to reset the LoLLy.

The LoLLy must be withing 20m of the Gold or Bronze Pot to receive contest results.

MENU

To access the Monster Lolly menu, touch the LoLLy. The menu is available to the owner and to those whose active group is the same as the LoLLy's group.

"New Contest"

Resets the LoLLy so that it can receive contest results. The Monster Board(s) is cleared.

"Text Color +/-"

Changes the text color to the next or previous color and restarts the display from the beginning.

"Team On/Off"

Turns the "Team Only Display" feature on or off and restarts the display from the beginning. When on, only team names are displayed.

Test Solo

Displays made-up results from a solo contest. The results exactly fill up the board(s) and are useful while aligning boards.

Test Team

Displays made-up results from a team contest.

LoLLy On/Off

Turns the LoLLy on or off. When the LoLLy is off, it does not listen for contest results.

Cycle +/-

Increases or decreases the number of seconds to display a page of results. Only used when the results do not fit onto the board. When decremented below the minimum value, cycling is turned off and only the first page of results is displayed. To turn cycling on again, click Cycle+.

Guide

Gives the (DS) Monster Board Guide.

Reinit

Puts the LoLLy into the 5 minute initialization period.

RECONFIGURING

To add or remove a board, you must repeat the process described in ASSEMBLY above.

As a shortcut, you can use the "Reinit" menu command rather than picking up the LoLLy and rerezzing it.

Also as a shortcut, you can reset the "(DS) Monster Link" script in a Monster Board rather than picking it up and rerezzing it.

MULTIPLE MONSTER LOLLIES

You can assemble multiple Monster LoLLies by repeating ASSEMBLY as many times as you want, making sure that that the 5 minute initialization periods DO NOT overlap.

For example, you might make a new Monster Board after each contest so that you can show the results of past contests.

LoLLy Now Sold Separately

The (DS) LoLLy by Diamond Synthesis is a (DS) Gold/Bronze Pot plug-in that displays and saves the results of a 7Seas Fishing Contest. You must also have either a (DS) Gold Pot or (DS) Bronze Pot.

Note: The LoLLy is included with the Gold Pot so only buy this item if you have a Bronze Pot.

Anyone can use your LoLLy to see results.

The LoLLy displays each person in the contest on a line, in place order. The display includes rank (adjusted for ties), points, name, team name (if a team contest), prizes, and gifts. If a prize or gift was not delivered because it was not in the pot, then "(not delivered)" appears after the prize or gift.

To save results, pick up a "loaded" LoLLY, which will appear in your inventory under a unique object name. When a LoLLy receives results, it changes its object name by appending the region name, date, and time. The LoLLy stores your contest results while in your inventory. To see the results again, rez the "loaded" LoLLy and click it.

To use your LoLLy for another contest, rez a "blank" LoLLy. A "blank" LoLLy appears in your inventory without a region name, date, and time appended to the object name.

Alternately, touch a "loaded" LoLLy, click Reset, and click Confirm when prompted.

When the pot displays payout information, including prizes, the floating text may exceed the display limit. In this case, the text is divided into pages, which change every 8 seconds.

4. Improved inventory checking.

The pot checks that prizes and gifts are in pot inventory when the first contribution is made to an empty pot and when a new configuration option is selected (gold pot only).

5. Incremental buy in.

If a contest requires a buy in and a person makes a contribution that is less than the buy in amount, the pot remembers. If the person makes additional contributions during the buy in period, they are added to the prior contributions when determining if the buy in succeeds.

6. Persistent buy in period.

When a "buyin period: 0" line appears in the config notecard, the buy in period is not timed and lasts until the contest ends.

7. show prizes: on

When a "show prizes: on" line appears in the config notecard, the pot displays prizes following the payout. All prizes are shown.

By default, the pot displays prizes only if there is no payout for a place.

January Pot Owner Special

If you own a fishing contest pot that currently retails for L$300 or more, you may purchase a (DS) Bronze Pot for L$100 through January 31, 2010. Contact diamond Marchant via IM to purchase.

The (DS) Bronze Pot by Diamond Synthesis is a 7Seas Fishing Contest Board plug-in that accepts money (L$) donations, pays money prizes, and delivers non-money prizes and gifts.

Why do this?

~ This pot can give prizes to as many places as you want. Not limited to 5 places.
~ In case of ties, this pot gives out prizes, such as bait, to all who tie.
~ You can add prizes, such as bait, at any time.
~ You can configure this pot to not accept money and only give out non-money prizes.
~ The split uses proportions and is easy to set up. No figuring out percentages.
~ You can use this pot in addition to your current pot to give out prizes such as bait. This is faster than having one pot give out everything.
~ This pot is nice looking. It is mod so you can change the prim attributes.
~ If you already have a textured pot prim, you can copy the scripts and config from this pot into your pot prim. Copy in this order: config, (DS) Pot UI Bronze, (DS) Pot Engine Bronze.

If you do team contests, use multiple pot configurations, or desire contest results reporting/saving, please consider the (DS) Gold Pot.
